Effect of TiO2 Nano Particles on Seed Germination and Seed Vigor in Festuca ovina under Drought Stress

چکیده :

Drought stress is a critical environmental challenge that affects crop yields and agricultural sustainability globally. Recent advancements in nanotechnology, particularly the application of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, have emerged as potential strategies to enhance plant tolerance to abiotic stressors, including drought. This study was conducted in 2021 at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, University of Tehran (Abourihan Campus), Iran, using a factorial test within a completely randomized design with four replications. The first factor included various levels of drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.5, and -0.8 megapascal), while the second factor encompassed different concentrations of titanium dioxide nanoparticles at four levels (0, 20, 40, and 80 mg per liter). Drought stress had a detrimental effect on all evaluated traits. The effect of TiO2 nanoparticles at a concentration of 20 mg/L on germination percentage, germination rate, and root length was observed, but the difference between this treatment and the control was not significant. The positive effect of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles on drought stress tolerance of plants has been demonstrated in various studies. However, determining the appropriate concentration depends on the type of plant and the levels of stress.
