Variation of Morphological traits of Festuca rubra Genotypes under Water Deficit Stress

چکیده :

Perennial forage grass species are of great importance among plants due to their essential role in producing healthy forage for livestock consumption, welfare and carbon sequestration in ecology. The response of grass species to water deficit and their ability to produce forage during and after drought stress conditions is very different.This study was conducted to investigate the effect of water deficit stress on some morphological traits in 2021-2022 at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology University of Tehran farm. Twenty genotypes of Festuca rubra species were planted in two levels of normal condition and water deficit stress condition 50% of the field capacity in a split plot arrangement with randomized complete block design. Seed sowing was done directly in the field. After applying stress, the traits such as germination percentage, leaf length, plant length, stem number, collar diameter, fresh weight, dry weight, and pollination date were investigated. The results of variance analysis showed that the effect of water deficit stress and genotypes for all traits as well as the interaction effect of leaf length and plant length were significant at the 1% probability level. The results of mean comparison of the main effects showed that all traits had higher means in normal conditions. The comparison of the means showed that genotype R5 had the highest mean for leaf length, plant height, number of stems, collar diameter, fresh weight and dry weight, genotypes R12 and R17 for pollination date, and genotypes R10 and R16 for germination percentage., these genotype can be studied for further investigation.
